Around the world friends and colleagues are holding demonstrations, solidarity support protests and candle light vigils. We feel that we should put these all in daily briefer so that friends around the world learn about who is doing what and can coordinate and take concerted action together. Burma campaign UK put out media release and had a special performance of the play called “The Lady of Burma” at Soho Theatre as part of the International Day of Action.
In Sri Lanka, more than hundred people, including thirty Burmese monks and number of Sri Lankan Buddhist monks along with Christian priests and sisters handed open letter “Stop the Repression of Peaceful Dissent in Burma” to the Burmese Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
In Philippines, solidarity activities organized by Initiative for International Dialogues (IID), Free Burma Campaign (FBC) Philippines, and Asia Pacific Solidarity Coalition (APSOC), were held in Davao City, South of the Philippines.
This morning, the sixth solidarity picket in front of the Burmese embassy in Makati was also held by group composed of Alliance of Progressive Labor (APL), Akbavan Citizen’s Action Party (ACAP), IID, Task Force Detainees Philippines (TFDP), Amnesty International (AI) Philippines and some individuals. There will also be activities on following days of 4th, 5th and 6th October in different places. We will update you with this.
In Australia, four Burmese start their first day of hunger strike at 12 noon in front of the Burmese embassy in Canberra. Their demands include that the international community to continue and intensify their support for genuine political change and peace in Burma and call on the governments of China, India, and Russia to join international community in their support.
